Home List vs List Ease

On the surface the two apps describe themselves the same way — even the name. The difference is who the app is working for while you shop.

Read the privacy label first

List Ease is made by inMarket Media, an advertising and retail-data company. That is not a criticism of the app; it is the business model, and Apple’s privacy label states it plainly. As of 3 September 2026, List Ease lists Purchases, Location, Contact Info, User Content, Search History, Identifiers and Usage Data under Data Used to Track You, with third-party advertising among the stated purposes. The grocery list is free because the shopping is the product.

You can see the model from inside the app, too. As of 3 September 2026, List Ease’s profile screen asks for your zip code and your gender. A shopping list has no use for either; an advertising business does, because zip code plus gender plus what you buy is a segment it can sell. Both fields are optional, and it is worth noticing that they are there at all.

Home List’s label under Data Used to Track You is None. Its profile asks for a name. It collects your email, your name and your location, uses them to run the app, and does nothing else with them. There are no ads on any tier and no coupons, and there is no third party the data is for.

The features that sound the same

List Ease’s description promises receipt scanning to track spending, alerts when someone on the list is buying, and “list reminders when you walk into a grocery store”. Home List does all three, and this page is not going to pretend otherwise. The differences are in how.

Receipts: Home List reads the receipt on your phone, matches the line items to your list and keeps the prices — and the photo never leaves the device. Reminders: Home List geofences whichever shops you pin, fires with the app force-quit, and tells the rest of the household you are there, so someone at home can add the thing they forgot while you are still in the aisle. What travels is the shop name and a count, never coordinates. We tested the force-quit case the only way that counts: closed the app, drove to the shop, and checked afterwards that the phone had done it alone.

A household is more than a cart

List Ease is a shopping app: lists, a pantry, budgets, coupons. Its description does not mention chores or a calendar, and as of the date above we could not find either in the app. Home List adds both, free — chores that rotate on a schedule and can be claimed with a tap, and a shared calendar that subscribes into Google, Apple or Outlook so it sits alongside the one you already use.

That is the shape of the product: the list feeds the trip, the trip feeds the record of what things cost, and the chores and calendar are the rest of what a household runs on. One app, one invite link, everyone in.

What you pay

Both apps are free to use. List Ease is free with advertising and coupons. Home List is free with neither; Premium ($2.99 a month or $24.99 a year, covering the whole household) adds more than two shops, spending analytics and restock predictions, and everything on this page is on the free tier.
