Out of Milk has been keeping lists for years. Home List starts where a list stops: at the shop door, and at the till.

What Out of Milk covers

A shopping list you can share by text or email, a pantry list, a to-do list, barcode scanning, and a running total of the prices on your list. Out of Milk Premium is on the App Store at $9.99 or $12.99. Home List has no pantry list and no barcode scanner.

Knowing when you are at the shop

Pin the shops you use and Home List tells you when you arrive with items still unchecked — on a locked screen, with the app closed. It can tell the rest of the household too, so the thing somebody forgot lands on your list while you are still in the aisle. Store-arrival reminders are not on Out of Milk’s App Store listing.

A running total, or what you actually paid

Out of Milk adds up the prices on your list. Home List reads the receipt after the shop: line items matched to the list and the real prices recorded, so over a few weeks you see what the household actually spends, trip by trip.

Chores, not just a to-do list

Out of Milk has a to-do list. Home List’s chores rotate on their own schedule and anyone can claim one with a tap, so the rota is not in one person’s head. There is a shared calendar that subscribes into Google, Apple or Outlook, and as many lists as you like.

No ads on any tier, ever. Premium ($2.99 a month, $24.99 a year) adds arrival reminders at every shop rather than one, spending analytics — monthly trends, shop-by-shop breakdowns and export — and restock predictions, and unlocks for the whole household at once. Everything else on this page is free.
